WORCESTER, Mass. - The weather may be cool, but the bats of the Western New England baseball team remain red-hot.
The Golden Bears pounded out 24 hits in defeating Anna Maria 12-0 and 9-0 Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 29) at Rocheleau Field on the campus of Assumption College.
Western New England ran its winning streak to eight games in raising its record to 12-4 overall and 8-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The AMCATS are now 8-8 and 3-3 in the conference.
Junior
Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) and sophomore
Jeff Richardson (Simsbury, CT) each allowed four hits in six innings in outstanding pitching performances.
Seven players had multi-hit outings with senior catcher
Jason Leclerc (Chicopee, MA) getting two hits in each contest, and finishing with three runs scored and four RBI.
Game 1 - Western New England 12, Anna Maria 0
Junior first baseman
Mike Taylor (Andover, MA) singled, tripled, and smacked a three-run homer (his second of the season) to finish with two runs scored and five RBI.
Sophomore second baseman
Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) singled twice, doubled, scored once, and knocked in two runs. Leclerc, senior third baseman
Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT), and sophomore left-fielder
Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT) each added two hits.
DiTommaso struck out five and walked one in picking up his second victory of the season without a loss.

Carlos Ortiz (Worcester, MA)
had two hits for the AMCATS.
Game 2 - Western New England 9, Anna Maria 0
The Golden Bears broke open a close game by scoring eight runs in the sixth inning with three-run doubles by Leclerc and Anthonis the big hits. Rubino added a run-scoring triple in the inning.
Sophomore right-fielder
Casey Dadio (Branford, CT) went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring double in the eighth, and three runs scored. Senior
Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) had a single, double, scored a run, and had a RBI.
Richardson fanned four, didn't walk anyone, and hit one batter in winning his first game in two decisions.
Sophomore center-fielder
Mike Guarnieri (Wallingford, CT) had a single and double while senior third baseman
Michael Galvin (Rutland, MA) also collected two hits for Anna Maria.
