MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Freshman midfielder
Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) scored a career-high eight goals to lead Western New England to an 18-10 victory over Salve Regina in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Tuesday (Mar. 29) at Gaudet Field.
The Golden Bears improve to 5-3 on the year with an unblemished 3-0 mark in TCCC play. The Seahawks drop to 2-6 and currently stand at 2-2 in conference.
Western New England jumped out to an early lead on a goal by senior attacker
Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) at 27:35 on an assist from junior midfielder
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA).
Barbato tallied three goals on the day, increasing her team-leading total to 27 on the season.
Toomy contributed three goals and a pair of assists on the afternoon.
Daniels and Toomy went on a run that would put the game out of reach, combining to score seven straight goals to push the Golden Bears advantage to 14-3 early in the second half.
Salve Regina was led by sophomore midfielders
Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, MA) and
Kelly Burke (Georgetown, MA) who each tallied three goals.
The Seahawks did hold the edge in draw controls (18-12), led by sophomore defender
Danielle Malconian (Belmont, MA) who collected nine.
Western New England senior goalkeepers
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) and
Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) each played a half, combining to make seven saves.
The Golden Bears return to the field on Thursday (Mar. 31) traveling to Smith at 4:30 p.m. for a non-conference contest.
