FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore right-fielder
Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT) smacked a three-run triple that keyed a seven-run third inning to lead Western New England to an 8-4 victory over Rensselaer Saturday evening (March 5) at the Farmingdale State Baseball Tournament.
Anthonis also singled in three at-bats as the Golden Bears rapped out 10 hits in taking their second straight game in the tournament.
Trailing 3-0, Western New England also benefited from a two-run double by senior third baseman
Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT), RBI single by sophomore second baseman
Mike Rubino (Northford, CT), and run-scoring triple by senior left-fielder
Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) in the decisive third. Rubino and Dudzinski each finished with two hits.
Junior first baseman
Mike Taylor (Andover, MA) reached base four times with a double, and three walks, and scored two runs.
Sophomore
Kevin Jefferis (Cheshire, CT) allowed four runs (three earned) in six innings while striking out five and walking none. Senior
Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) gave up only one hit in two innings before junior
Mike Lawlor (Windsor, CT) tossed a scoreless ninth.
Rensselaer also collected 10 hits in its season opener with junior right-fielder
Art Levenson (San Diego, CA) going 2-for-4, including a two-run homer that gave the Engineers a 2-0 lead in the second.

Chuck Erickson (Mansfield, MA) and freshman second baseman
Andrew Kalish (Clifton Park, NY) each contributed two hits and a RBI in their college debuts. Senior pitcher

Weather permitting, Western New England will meet Keene State at 1:00 p.m. (instead of 4:00) Sunday (March 6) in the final game of the event.
