Western New England tops rival New England College 19-4 in conference action

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) scored five goals and junior attacker Katie Toomy (Northborough, NY) had four goals and an assist to lead Western New England to a 19-4 win over New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Thursday (Apr. 14) at Golden Bear Stadium.

The Golden Bears improve to 10-4 on the year with a 7-1 mark in TCCC play. The Pilgrims fall to 3-10 and are 2-7 in conference.

Western New England dominated play early, scoring the first nine goals all in the opening ten minutes of play.

Freshman Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) and Shelby Trebbe (Wilbraham, MA) each contributed two goals and two assists.

Daniels also managed three draw controls and three ground balls.

WNEC capitalized on a 12-4 advantage in draw controls in the first half, as they took a 13-2 lead into the break.

Senior attacker Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT), junior midfielder Liz McRoberts (Bourne, MA), and freshman midfielder Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, NY) each tallied a pair of goals in the contest.

The Pilgrims were led offensively by senior attacker Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, CT) who notched two goals in the second half.

Junior midfielder Amanda Naime (York, ME) scored a goal, picked up four ground balls, and had two draw controls.

Senior defender Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) was a force on the defensive end for Western New England, with eight ground balls, four draw controls, and five caused turnovers.

Senior goalkeepers Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Erin Doherty (Westford, MA) combined to make 11 saves on the day.

Junior goalkeeper Caroline Doherty (Miller Place, NY) made nine saves for the Pilgrims.

Western New England returns to the field on Saturday (Apr. 16) to face Curry in a TCCC match-up at 6:00 p.m.
