- The Western New England baseball team earned the number one seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Championship after defeating Gordon 5-4 and 3-0 Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 27).

The Golden Bears, who completed a four-game road swing in three days, improved their record 31-8 and captured the regular season conference title with a 20-2 mark.

Gordon falls to 6-27 and 3-16 in the conference.

Coach Matt LaBranche's squad visits Bridgewater State Friday (Apr. 29) in its final contest before hosting a first-round game of the conference tournament next Tuesday (May 3).

Game 1 - Western New England 5, Gordon 4
Senior center-fielder Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the sixth that delivered the game-winner.

The Golden Bears took advantage of three errors to score a pair of unearned runs in the first and another in the third.

Gordon scored a run in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by senior shortstop Stephen Myhren (Vernon, NJ). The hosts rallied to tie the contest in the fourth on a two-run single by sophomore pitcher Robert Hinckley (Raynham, MA).

Western New England went ahead 4-3 in the fifth when sophomore second baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) knocked-in senior designated hitter Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) who singled, stole second, and moved to third on a fly-out by sophomore right-fielder Casey Dadio (Branford, CT). Dudzinski and Dadio each scored two runs in the game.

Junior first baseman Eric Wolak (Trumbull, CT) smacked a one-out homer in the bottom of the inning to knot the contest for the final time.

Senior third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) had a pair of singles and double for the Golden Bears. Freshman Brendan Nugent (Milford, CT) pitched an inning-and-a-third in relief to gain his first collegiate victory. Junior Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) went the final two innings, giving up two walks with two strikeouts, for his first career save.

Game 2 - Western New England 3, Gordon 0
Senior Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) fired a three-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts to stay unbeaten at 6-0.

The Golden Bears took another 2-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Trubia (the designated hitter) who then stole second and came home on a run-scoring double by junior first baseman Mike Taylor (Andover, MA).

Fatse hit his first home run of the season leading off the seventh for the final run.

Sophomore left-fielder Dillon Colman (Cromwell, CT) had two hits for the Fighting Scots.
