Ryan Dunnigan and
Jake Bartnik scored 4 minutes and 3 seconds apart beginning in the 28th minute to stake Western New England to a shocking 2-0 lead. It marked freshman Dunnigan's first collegiate goal after he collected a loose ball in front of the goal mouth and slid the shot underneath the Oneonta keeper. Bartnick notched his third goal of the season after receiving a long throw-in from freshman
Kevin McSherry into the penalty area and then he rifled the shot to the upper-right corner.
Domenick Villano's shutout bid was spoiled by Eric Fortier's header with only 4 seconds left in the game, taking a cross from Colin Volpe. The junior keeper finished with six saves in the WNE net.
Oneonta, which advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals a year ago after winning the SUNYAC title, outshot Western New England 14 to 10 and had a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-5.
This afternoon's win was just the second on the road for the Golden Bears.
