QUINCY, Mass. – Freshman pitcher
Trevor Breton (Enfield, CT) had another stellar outing and Western New England banged out 14 hits in posting a 14-7 victory over Suffolk in a non-conference baseball game Monday (Apr. 9) at Adams Field.
The Golden Bears, who dropped a twinbill to tenth-ranked Wheaton Sunday, improved their record to 15-8. This was the 10th time WNE has scored more than 10 runs in a game this season.
Breton allowed only two hits in six innings walking four and striking out three in raising his record to 4-1.
Junior third baseman
Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) and junior right fielder
Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT) each had three hits and knocked in three runs apiece. Rubino also scored twice.
Junior second baseman
Tim Clark (West Springfield, MA) added a single and double, and scored twice while knocking in a run.
Sophomore center fielder
Jeff Schult (Wappingers Falls, NY) contributed a double and scored three runs.
The Golden Bears scored twice in both the second and third innings, and tallied five runs in the third as Rubino and Anthonis smacked back-to-back two-run doubles to help give WNE a 9-0 lead.
Freshman first baseman
J.C. Collette (Amesbury, MA) had three hits for Suffolk, including a pair of doubles and three RBI. Junior
Mitch Monke (Springfield, OH) was the losing pitcher.
The Rams fall to 8-15-1.
