QUINCY, Mass. – The Western New England men's tennis team ended its regular season by dropping a hard-fought 6-3 decision against Eastern Nazarene Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 25).
The Golden Bears (7-8) placed fifth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) standings with a 4-4 mark. The Lions (13-7) were third in the conference at 6-2.
ENC opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches before Western New England senior
JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) and freshman
Peter Nassar (Longmeadow, MA) secured a tight 9-7 victory at the third spot.
Junior
Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) posted an exciting 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at number one singles while sophomore
Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, VT) claimed a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 win at the sixth position for the Golden Bears' other points.
Eastern Nazarene freshmen
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, MA) and
Sam Son (Wilbraham, MA) captured their number three and four singles flights, respectively, and teamed for an 8-6 win at number two doubles.
Western New England will visit Endicott (9-10, 5-3 CCC) at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 28) in a quarterfinal round match of the CCC Championship.
