Western New England begins conference campaign with an 8-1 victory over Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Western New England men's tennis team opened its Commonwealth Coast Conference season on a strong note with an 8-1 victory over Curry Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 3).

This was the second straight win for the Golden Bears who are now 2-4. The Colonels remain winless at 0-7 and 0-2 in the CCC.

WNE won all three doubles matches with the number one squad of junior Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) and freshman Peter Lefrancois (Marlborough, MA) prevailing 9-8 (7-3).

Holzinger and Lefrancois also captured their number one and five singles matches in straight sets.

Freshman Greg Tischofer (Portland, CT) had an exciting match at number four singles with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 victory.

Senior Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) captured both his doubles and singles matches.

Freshman Cameron Chamberlain (Scituate, MA) had the only point for Curry with a win at number two singles.
