Western New England concludes a winning week with a 5-4 victory over Wentworth

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's tennis team won four of six singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over visiting Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match Saturday afternoon (Apr. 7).

The Golden Bears, who concluded a busy week with a 4-1 mark, are now 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the CCC. The Leopards have a 3-3 record and 1-2 ledger in conference play.

Senior Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, MA) led WNE by winning his number three doubles match with freshman John Mindek (Willington, CT) by the score of 8-0, then posted an exciting 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 decision at the number three singles flight.

 Sophomore Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, VT) compiled a 7-5, 6-3 win at number six singles that proved to be the deciding point.

Wentworth junior Juan Rodriquez (Quito, Ecuador) teamed with senior Nate Gove (Scarborough, ME) for an 8-3 win at the top doubles position and then took his number one singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
