Jeff Schult joined McKelvey with three hits apiece, as Western New England cruised to an 11-0 victory Thursday over Curry in the first round of the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference Baseball Championship Tournament at Pat Ricci Field at Trelease Park.

With the win, the top-seeded Golden Bears improve to 29-9 on the season and will host No. 4 Roger Williams--an 11-5 loser at No. 3 Salve Regina today--at 3 p.m. Friday in Game 5. The No. 6-seed Colonels (8-23-2) move to an elimination game on Friday when they will play at No. 2 Endicott, which was upset by fifth-seeded Wentworth, 5-1.
Senior
Mike Lospinuso pitched six scoreless innings of two-hit ball to up his record to 8-1. He also had eight strikeouts and did not issue a walk.
"This was a good way to start the tournament. We put up a bunch of runs, Lospo was sharp (on the mound) and caught the ball for him," Western New England coach Matt LaBranche said after the game. "We need to turn the page quickly, though. It's a long way to go and we know better than anyone what teams can do from the losers' bracket."
With Western New England already holding a 2-0 lead after the first inning, the Golden Bears added three more runs in the next frame on a bases-clearing double to left-center field by Rubino.
The Golden Bears pushed across three more runs for an 8-0 lead in the fourth. McKelvey had a two-run double to start the rally.
McKelvey had another RBI-double in the sixth as WNE put the game out of reach with a two-run single to right-center by freshman catcher
Tim Budd.
Every starter in the WNE lineup had at least one hit as the Golden Bears rapped 17 on the day.
