Kaitlynn Stevens pumped in four goals, as visiting Western New England pinned a 19-2 non-conference win Friday evening the over University of Dallas in the first women's lacrosse meeting between the schools. The Golden Bears remain unbeaten at 6-0 while the Lady Crusaders fall even to 4-4 on the season.
The Golden Bears scored early and often with 14 goals in the first half alone. Mary Davern took a feed from Cascade Meyer to cut Dallas' deficit to 2-1 at the 26:43 mark, but WNE responded with four unanswered goals within a 4-minute and 26-second span. Trebbe and sophomore
Taylor Scialdone (2 assists) scored 15 seconds apart, followed by Stevens and senior tri-captain
Kelsey Sherman (2 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls, 4 draw controls) just 20 seconds apart.
After Meghan Falconer scored an unassisted man-up goal for Dallas to make it 6-2, the Golden Bears took command by scoring the last eight goals of the first half. With five more tallies in the second, WNE established a season high with a 13scoring run.
Besides the scoreboard, the Golden Bears also dominated in other facets of the game including shots (42-5), shots on goal (32-5), ground balls (32-11), draw controls (19-4), turnovers (13-23), clears (10-for11 to 6-for-17) and free-position goals (6-1).
Mary Hilker and goalie Christine Jablonsky (13 saves) led the Lady Crusaders with three ground balls apiece. Sophomore
Brooke Kumnick came off the WNE bench to record a game-best five ground balls, plus she scored a goal and had two assists.
