Men's Soccer Drops Curry in Regular Season Finale, 4-1

Box Score
MILTON, Mass. (October 27, 2015) - The Western New England University men's soccer team wrapped up its 2015 regular season schedule in impressive fashion this afternoon, scoring four first half goals in an eventual 4-1 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Walter M. Katz Field.

Western New England (10-7, 8-1 CCC) earns the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament and will host No. 7 seed Nichols College, who the Golden Bears defeated 2-1 on Senior Day, this Saturday at 1 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup at Suprenant Field. Curry (10-8-1, 2-6-1 CCC) ends up as the No. 8 seed and will travel to Beverly, Mass. for a matchup with top-seeded Endicott College on Saturday.

Western New England spread the wealth offensively this afternoon, as four different Golden Bears scored and two others recorded assists. Sophomore forward Maurice Young (Walpole, Mass.) staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead just under 12 minutes into the contest, scoring his third goal of the season with the help of an assist from classmate Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.).

Less than three minutes later, Western New England doubled its advantage when sophomore forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.), found senior Chad Burke (Boxford, Mass.) for the goal that would stand as the game-winner.

Remillard, who was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week yesterday, then found the back of the net himself in the 21st minute on a feed from Pingree. The sophomore has now scored six goals over his last five matches, totaling 14 points during that same stretch.

Western New England put the finishing touches on its four goal first half in the 32nd minute, when sophomore Alan Haberern (Durham, Conn.) scored on an unassisted strike. Haberern, who netted the overtime game-winner on a free kick in the Golden Bears' 3-2 win over Salve Regina last Wednesday, scored today in similar fashion. Following a Curry foul 20 yards from the net, Haberern ripped a high shot into the top left corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) stopped 12 of the 13 shots that came his way and was less than two minutes from registering his second shutout of the season, but Curry senior midfielder Rolando Montero (Norwalk, Conn.) got the Colonels on the board at the 88:03 mark.

Junior Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for the Colonels, making five saves in 74 minutes of action.
