Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--Senior
Steve Buckley and junior
Scott Hubener both went 2-for-4 with a run batted in to lead a Western New England 10-hit attack, but the Golden Bears' furious ninth-inning rally fell just shy in a 9-6 loss at the hands of Trinity-Conn. on the second day of the 2015 RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park #5. It was the season opener for the victorious Bantams, while WNE falls to 0-2.
Trailing 9-1 in the bottom of the ninth, WNE made things interesting by scoring five runs on four hits, a walk, two hit batsmen and an error. Buckley, junior pinch-hitter
Brett Morgan, and Hubener had RBI singles to highlight the comeback attempt.
The Bantams were able to capitalize on five WNE errors as only three of their nine runs were earned.
Evan Abraham and Carter Snyder led Trinity with two hits apiece. Jed Robinson (1-0) pitched eight innings to get the win, scattering six hits and allowing an earned run with three strikeouts. Anthony Reda, the Bantams second reliever, came into the game with the bases loaded and got the last out to chalk up the save.
Sophomore
Daniel Morin got the Golden Bears on the scoreboard with a RBI-double in the seventh frame.
The Golden Bears return to RussMatt action at 6 p.m. Sunday against Keene State College in a doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park Main Field in Auburndale, Fla.
