Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.--Junior David Cherry had a season-best nine strikeouts, junior Kyle Maglio and sophomore Daniel Morin both had three hits and the Western New England University baseball team had season highs of nine runs and 13 hits to down Bowdoin College, 9-2, on Thursday at Lake Myrtle Park #3. The Golden Bears are now 2-5 at the RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational and for the season, while the Polar Bears slip to 5-6.

Western New England scored four times in the very top of the first inning and never looked back. Senior Steve Buckley had a sacrifice fly and Morin and Maglio both had RBI-singles to highlight the quick start.

Cherry got the win after working eight innings in which he set a WNE season-high with nine strikeouts against just one walk. He allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits--all singles. Classmate Matt Fedor pitched a perfect ninth, retiring the side in order including two strikeouts.

Cole DiRober had a sacrifice fly in the first to cut WNE's lead to 4-1 and he added a run-scoring single to frames later. Aaron Rosen paced Bowdoin with two hits.

The Golden Bears got some insurance with two runs each in the eighth and ninth innings. Morin hit a two-run homer in the eighth and junior Brett Morgan had a pinch-hit RBI-single in the ninth.
