Adam Zimmerman led the Western New England University men's tennis team with two points, but visiting Eastern Nazarene College was able to come from behind to take a 6-3 victory from the Golden Bears on Saturday at the Volvo Outdoor Courts. Jody Lemoi, who is fighting leukemia.
Western New England falls to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference while the Lions improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
Zimmerman teamed up with classmate
Alexander Sause at No. 2 doubles for an 8-4 win over Sam Son and Davis Steelman. Zimmerman also bested the Steelman in a No. 5 singles thriller, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
A win by the senior tandem of
Chris Spear and
Greg Tischofer over Andres Biondi and Tyler Perron, 8-4, gave WNE a 2-1 lead going into the singles competition.
The Lions, however, got the win after taking five of six singles bouts.
Western New England is scheduled to end the regular season at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts CCC foe Nichols College. It will be Senior Day for the Golden Bears.
