Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Massâ€"The Western New England baseball team collected 19 hits as it routed Babson College, 11-2, in a non-conference game Monday on Pat Ricci Field at Trelease Park. The Golden Bears improve their record to 18-16, and Babson falls to 15-17 on the season.
 
Seven Golden Bears had multi-hit games led by junior Matt Calzone, who picked up four hits, and classmate Doug Milne and senior Matt Anziano who notched three hits apiece. Junior Kevin Marciano drove in two runs on two hits and senior tri-captain Steve Buckley plated two runs with a hit. Junior Eduardo Colmenares and Calzone both smacked two doubles, and junior T.J. Wyrebek added two hits and two runs scored.
 
Junior Chris Casey (2-2) picked up the win for the Golden Bears, scattering six hits in six innings, and only surrendering two runs while striking out three. Sophomore Matt Thomas pitched two scoreless innings, not allowing a hitâ€"setting up senior Brian Mazella to finish the game.  
 
Babson delivered two runs early in the second inning when Zeke Zabinski walked, followed by a single from George Crowley and then Adam Ayala, which Zabinski scored on after an error. Next, the Golden Bears walked in a run, allowing Babson to advance its lead to 2-0.
 
The Golden Bears' offense counter attacked in the fourth inning, putting a five spot on the board. Buckley led the inning off with a double, and was brought around when Colmenares hit a double of his own. Calzone mimicked his teammates and lined a double down the left field line, scoring Colmenaresâ€"tying the game at two apiece. Wyrebek got hit by a pitch, giving the Golden Bears runners on first and second, and Marciano kept with the team's rhythmâ€"cranking a double to center field, giving WNE a 3-2 lead. Then, Anziano singled scoring Wyrebek. Milne reached on an error, which scored Marcianoâ€"making it 5-2.
 
The Golden Bears exploded again in the seventh inning, adding six runs on seven hitsâ€"extending their lead to 11-2, while batting around for the second time in the game. Colmenares led the inning off with his second double of the game, and was followed by Calzone's second double. The Golden Bears notched seven straight hits, which gave the pitching staff an immense cushion.
 
Dillon Gonzalez led the way for Babson, going 2-for-4, and Owen Shea picked up a hit and an RBI. Zabinski, Ayala, Joe Barry, Crowley and Ryan Arena all had a hit, too.
