SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 6, 2016) - The Western New England University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches this afternoon with a 7-2 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Playing at home for the first time this spring, the Golden Bears improved their record to 6-1 (2-0 CCC), while Wentworth drops to 2-4 (0-2 CCC) with the loss.

Seniors
Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and
Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.), and freshman
Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) led the way for Western New England, earning points in both singles and doubles play.

Otero and Kohut teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Wentworth's duo of James Drum/Josh Dowd, while Otero posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Seng Ly at No. 2 singles and Kohut claimed a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Thinh Dang at No. 4 singles.

Spear was also a double winner for the Golden Bears, cruising past Zach Peter 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles after earning an 8-2 result with classmate
Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) at No. 2 doubles over Zach Peter/Ly.

Wentworth earned its first point at No. 3 doubles from the Mike Withington/James Thomas duo, which defeated Western New England's tandem of sophomore
Nick Raschilla (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman
Drew Berg (Wilbraham, Mass.), 8-3.

The Leopards second point came courtesy of Drum, who rallied for a 1-6, 7-5 (10-5) win over Sause at No. 1 singles.

Also among Western New England's five singles winners were freshman
Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore
Kevin Yawgel (Cromwell, Conn.). Tran edged Dowd 4-6, 7-5 (10-5) at No. 5 singles, and Yawgel earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Justin Wright out of the No. 6 singles spot.

Western New England will look to keep rolling on Friday afternoon, when Gordon visits Springfield for a CCC matchup. Wentworth is also in action on Friday at Curry.ÂÂ
