READING, Pa. (November 4, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team opened their 2023-2024 schedule on Saturday afternoon, placing six of their own in the top four of their respective weight classes while six others placed in the semifinals of the consolation bracket. WNE finished fourth of ten teams in the invitational.
How it Happened:
Peter Charnley went 4-1 in the 149 lb. weight class on the day, winning two matches via major decision, one via tech-fall, and sudden victory to finish second in the weight class for the Golden Bears.
Jaylen Hawkins made it all the way to the championship round in the 184 lb. weight class, going 3-1 on the day and winning via major decision, fall, and decision on the day to take second place in the weight class.
Spencer Dickinson was dominant on the mat for the Golden Bears, also taking second place on the day. The junior would win via pinfall, sudden victory, and major decision in the 285 lb. weight class to finish in second for the Golden Bears.
WNE would see three-place finishes in fourth in their weight classes as
Austin Monteiro (141), Cam Hines (157), and
CJ Glaropoulos (174) would help Western New England compete to fourth place on the day.
The Golden Bears saw six match in the semifinals of the consolation bracket as
Clayton O'Connor (125),
David Lisk (157),
Sean Monteiro (165),
Tristan Julian (174),
Charles Maloy (184), and
Griffin Ostrom (197) would all help the Golden Bears on the afternoon.
