SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (June 21, 2024) – A total of 101 Golden Bears from nine sponsored Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) sports have earned a spot on the CCC's All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office this afternoon. The 101 Golden Bears are the most who have received honors since Western New England (WNE) entered the CCC.
To qualify for the biannual Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have participated in an active sport sponsored by the CCC during the winter and/or spring seasons. The student-athlete must also be at least sophomore status athletically and academically, with one academic year in residence at Western New England. The student-athlete must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale and have been an active member of a roster of a sport sponsored by the CCC. Graduate transfers, regardless of their enrollment at Western New England, are eligible for the award. First-year students, freshmen, and undergraduate transfers in their first semester at their current institution are not eligible.
The 101 total Golden Bears rank second among the 11 institutions that received honors. Endicott College led the way with 140 recipients. Western New England sees 101 total student-athletes recognized. Nichols College (94), Roger Williams University (92), Curry College (88), Wentworth Institute of Technology (86), University of New England (85), Suffolk University (75), University of Hartford (65), Gordon College (60), and Salve Regina University (32) round out the 918 total student-athletes honored by the conference.
Of the nine sports represented by both the CCC and WNE, men's ice hockey represented the most student-athletes for the Golden Bears with 18. Baseball (14), men's lacrosse (13), women's lacrosse (13), softball (13), women's ice hockey (13), women's basketball (12), men's basketball (6), and men's tennis (4) were all represented by Western New England student-athletes.
