Soccer Duo Pick Up Golden Bear Athletes of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 14, 2025) – Two members of their respective Western New England soccer teams, Tess Chevalier from women's soccer, and Tyler Lewis from men's soccer, have been named Golden Bear Athletes of the Week following strong performances on the pitch that resulted in no losses.

Tess Chevalier contributed on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball this past week, helping the Golden Bears women's soccer team to a 1-0-1 record. Chevalier opened the week by helping hold the Colonels of Curry College scoreless and held Curry to just four shots in total in the 90-minute game, picking up just two shots on goal. Chevalier played the full 90 minutes in the game, taking two shots, putting one on goal in the 0-0 draw. In a crucial road Conference of New England contest this past weekend, the Golden Bears earned a 2-1 victory over Gordon College, led by the offense and defense of Chevalier. The WNE sophomore scored the opening goal for the Golden Bears in the win on her only shot of the contest and held the Fighting Scots to just six shots on goal to come up with the CNE victory, improving to 3-2-1 in conference play. Chevalier now has a pair of goals on the season for the blue and gold and has played the full 90-minutes in the five straight games.

Tyler Lewis helped the Golden Bears earn a pair of Conference of New England victories this past week to move up in the standings. Lewis opened the week in a midweek conference contest against Curry College by scoring two goals, including the eventual game-winning goal, putting up four points in the win. Lewis took five shots, putting three on goal, playing in 76 minutes in the victory. Lewis then logged his second 90-minute game of the season, coming in this past Saturday's 2-1 win over Gordon College, contributing an assist on the opening goal of the game for Western New England. Lewis also held Gordon College to just a single shot on goal and five overall in the 90-minutes of play, handing Gordon its first CNE loss of the season. Lewis now has five goals and four assists on the season, good for 14 points overall.

Both the WNE men's and women's soccer teams play a big home game each this week as they host Endicott College on October 14 (men) and October 15 (women), respectively.
