Golden Bears See 20 Top Eight Finishes at Jim Sheehan Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 5, 2025) – The Golden Bears were in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, for the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday. The team had student-athletes place in the top 8 in 20 events during the invitational. Imani Brown-Taylor placed third in the triple jump event, Olivia Kay placed second in the 5,000m race, and the WNE men's 4x400m relay team of Nick Smith, Evan Stewart, Kyle Charria, and Pablo Tapion got first in the event.

Men's Team: 6th/18

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears competed in the first Jim Sheehan Invitational for the first time in program history. During the field events, Ike Ogbonnanaze would have a best throw of 39.51m to earn fourth place in the event. Ogbonnanaze also competed in the shot put event and threw a best throw of 11.83m to earn fourth place in that event. Dennis Kotee would place in the top 8 of the men's long jump event. Kotee placed eighth with a long jump of 6.03m, a personal record for Kotee. Imani Brown-Taylor and Kayla Kyles would place third and eighth in the women's triple jump event. Brown-Taylor would have a best jump of 10.45m, which was only .20 away from first place and was a personal record. Kyles placed eighth with a best jump of 9.42. All four of these student-athletes earned 18 points for the Golden Bears.

On the track, two relays and twelve student-athletes would place in the top 8 of their respective events. The women's 4x100m relay team of Gabrielle Minuti, Fallon Lynch, Imani Brown-Taylor, and Kayla Kyles placed second with a final time of 52.37. Fallon Lynch picked up a personal record in the 400m race by placing seventh and earning a time of 1:06.50. Jordie Morgan would place in the top 8 and earn points in the 400m and 200m races. In the 400m, Morgan placed seventh with a personal time of 53.37. Morgan would then get fifth in the 200m with a time of 23.41. Kayla Kyles and Imani Brown-Taylor would both earn more points for the Golden Bears, but now on the track. Kayla Kyles picked up a sixth-place finish in the 100m with a time of 13.54. Imani Brown-Taylor would earn eighth place with a time of 13.74. Jason Pratt would place 6th in the sixth in the 100m race for the Golden Bears with a time of 11.22. Then, Nina Garofalo would earn seventh place in the 800m race with a time of 2:42.81. Pablo Tapion would pick up an eighth-place finish in the men's 800m race with a time of 2:15.01. Gabrielle Minuti placed eighth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:25.61. Jack Straut would place fifth in the men's 400m hurdles. Straut picked up a personal record time of 1:02.15. Olivia Kay, Caitlin Riley, and Matt Provost raced the 5,000m race. Olivia Kay finished second in the women's race with a personal record time of 20:33.70. Caitlin Reilly placed fourth in the women's 5,000m race with a time of 21:00.43. Matt Provost placed seventh in the 5,000m race with a personal record time of 16:13.76. Lastly, the men's 4x400m relay team would cap the day off with a first-place finish. The team of Nick Smith, Evan Stewart, Kyle Charria, and Pablo Tapion earned that first-place finish with a time of 3:50.12. The teams would earn a total of 56 points in the track events to put their total points at 37 for each team and 74 overall.
