Johnson Ties For First At Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine (September 28, 2025) – Western New England men's golf sophomore Derek Johnson took his first victory of the season this weekend at the Bowdoin College Invitational, finishing two strokes under par to tie for the lowest score in a field of 97 golfers.. 

Johnson shot one stroke under par for the opening day of the event, picking up 13 pars, three birdies, and two bogeys, finishing with a 71 overall, which was tied for the lowest score following the opening day of the event. Johnson then earned three birdies, two bogeys, and his first eagle of the season (two strokes under par), finishing with another 71 for the second day. Johnson's -2 for the two-day event ties Endicott's Miles O'Quinn for the top spot in the tournament overall.

Alex Noti opened the first day of the event with an 80 overall, one of three Golden Bears to post a +8 for the first day. Kyle Klimas and Michael Bluhm also finished with 80's for the opening day. Noti finished three strokes better on day two of the event, shooting a +5 overall, finishing with a +13, shooting a 157 for the event. 
Klimas took an 80 on day one of the event and shot three strokes more on the second day, finishing with an 83 for day two and 163 total strokes for the invitational.

Bluhm's 80 on day one was his best score out of the two-day event after shooting six more strokes on day two of the event, carding eight bogey/double bogeys for the day to shoot an 86 for day two, picking up 166 strokes overall. 

Carter Browning also competed for the Golden Bears at Bowdoin, shooting an 84 on day one of the invitational and came back with an 82 for day of the event, including two birdies, finishing +10 for the round. 

As a team, Western New England finished 13th overall out of 17 teams, posting +23 on day one of the event and +25 on day two.

  • The most important event of the season will take place next weekend at Tumble Brook Country Club as the Golden Bears set their sights on the Conference of New England Championships on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
