Johnson and DeGroff Lead The Charge; Golden Bears Master The Western Connecticut Invitational

DANBURY, Conn. (April 9, 2026) – The Golden Bears charged into the Western Connecticut Invitational on Thursday after a second-place finish at the Alling Invitational on Tuesday. They walked out of Richter Park Golf Course with a team win and the duo of Derek Johnson and Kyle DeGroff sharing the individual title.
Results: 1st/3 (314 points)
How it Happened:
Derek Johnson: The five-time winner picked up his sixth individual victory on Thursday with a final round of 75. Johnson started his day as part of the first trio to walk out on the course. The sophomore shot a 37 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine to come to that final 75.
Alex Noti: Noti would finish fourth on the team in the Western Connecticut Invitational. The sophomore would start the round with a 41 on the front side of the course. He came back with a 44 to end the round with an 85.
Kyle Klimas: Klimas placed fourth overall in Thursday's invitational. He started the day with a 43, but had the third-best back nine in the invitational by shooting a 36 to conclude his day with a final round of 79.
Kyle DeGroff: It was a tricky front nine for DeGroff, as he would shoot a 41 to open up the invitational. However, he found his swing on the back nine and had the second-best score on the second nine, with a 34. That final round of 75 found him tied for the win with Johnson.
Rian Faiq: The front nine of the course saw Faiq shoot an opening nine, 51. However, that did not faze Faiq as he turned around and shot a 40 on the back nine to end the day with a round of 91.
Up Next on the Schedule:
The Golden Bears will be back on the links on Monday, April 13, 2026, as they will take on the Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational at Tatnuck Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts.
