Straut And Hawes Earn Final Weekly Conference Honors After Top-Level Performances At The Bonnie Edmondson Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 21, 2026) – The Conference of New England (CNE) announced their weekly awards for Men's Track and Field. Two Golden Bears see their names appear as the Track Athlete of the Week and Field Rookie of the Week. Jack Straut and Owen Hawes claim each of those awards, respectively, after their performances at the Bonnie Edmondson Classic.
Jack Straut earned the honor of the CNE Men's Track Athlete of the Week after his performances at the Bonnie Edmondson Classic on Friday. It started in the Men's 110m Hurdles, where Straut ran a 15.98 in the event (beating his seed time) and placed fourth overall. Then, he competed in the 400m Hurdles, where he placed sixth in the event, with a final time of 59.37. Straut had a top-tier meet on Friday and has been recognized with the Track Athlete of the Week award for the first time in his career because of that.
Owen Hawes also had a great meet on Friday in Connecticut. The Orange, Connecticut, native beat his seed mark in the Men's Pole Vault event during the Bonnie Edmondson Classic. He would place tied for second in the event and finish with a final mark of 3.85. A tremendous mark for Hawes, and it helped him earn the CNE's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career,
The Golden Bears head into their postseason championships as Straut, Hawes, and the whole team will travel out to Wenham, Massachusetts, on Friday and Saturday (April 24th and 25th) for the Conference of New England Championships.
