Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Western New England College closed out its regular season with an 18-9 victory over MIT Saturday in a Pilgrim League contest. The win was the third in a row and fifth in six contests for the Golden Bears who are now 11-5 and 7-1 in the league.
Sophomore Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) led the attack with five goals and an assist while junior Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) had four goals and an assist. Senior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) added two goals and three assists while senior Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) contributed three goals.
Also hitting the back of the net were sophomore Zack Sondrini (Pittsfield, MA) and freshmen Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH),  Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) and Gary Schuldt (Yorktown Heights, NY).
Western New England College trailed 2-1 and 5-2 before scoring the last five goals in the last 3:24 of the opening quarter for a 7-5 advantage. MIT played tough in the second period and went into half-time trailing only 10-8.
After that, the Golden Bears' defense again rose to the occasion limiting the Engineers to only one goal in the final 30 minutes.
Western New England College will be the second seed in the Pilgrim League Tournament and host third-seeded Babson at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 4) in a semifinal round game. Top-seeded Springfield will entertain fourth-seeded Lasell in the other contest.
The championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 7).
