Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Seniors CJ Annunciata (Walham, MA) and Pat Matthews (Middle Island, NY) combined for six goals and an assist to lead Western New England College to a 13-7 victory over Babson College in a semifinal round game of the 2005 Pilgrim League Tournament. Annunciata finished with four goals and an assist while Matthews scored twice.
Junior Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) also scored two times while sophomores Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) and Brian Praetorius (Saugerties, NY), and freshmen Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) and Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) each contributed a goal and assist. Freshman Travis Brown (Montpelier, VT) scored the final goal of the game.
Western New England College held a slim 6-5 lead at half-time and 8-5 advantage after three quarters before gaining control of the game in the final stanza.
Freshman Jason Wellemeyer led the Beavers (9-7) with three goals while senior Steve Whitney had a goal and assist, and junior Nate Brawn three assists.
Western New England College (12-5) will meet top-seeded Springfield College (a 7-4 winner over fourth-seeded Lasell earlier today) at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 7) in the championship game at Benedum Field.
This will be the fourth straight year the city rivals have met in the Pilgrim League Tournament final. The Golden Bears won the league crown in 2002; the Pride have captured the last two Pilgrim League titles.
In the regular season match-up, Springfield defeated Western New England College 14-13 in overtime on April 13 at Golden Bear Stadium.
