SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" The Western New England College women's tennis teams saw its season come to an end Saturday (Oct. 21) after suffering a 6-3 loss to Emmanuel in a semifinal round match of the Great Northeast Athletic COnference (GNAC) Tournament.
The Golden Bears, who received a first-round bye, were seeded second in the tournament and had defeated the third-seeded Saints 5-4 two weeks ago in Boston.
Senior Kristyn Villany (Red Bank, NJ) and sophomore Nicole Freed (Jersey SHore, PA) won their number two and five singles matches, respectively. Freshman Kristen Ayers (Acton, MA) and sophomore Ashley Sunderland (Commack, NY) teamed to take the number two doubles flight.
The Golden Bears finish their season with a 10-3 record that ties as the third-highest win total in school history.
