PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Senior Jason Connelly (Scituate, MA) tossed a six-hitter as the Western New England College baseball team posted a 7-1 victory over Worcester State College Saturday afternoon.

Connelly struck out nine and didn't allow a walk in raising his record to 2-0.

The Golden Bears jumped to a 5-1 lead after two innings and added single runs in the fourth and fifth while banging out 11 hits.

Junior third baseman Josh Jacobs (Essex Junction, VT) went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, two runs, and a run-batted-in while junior first baseman Tom Horgan (Westfield, MA) had two hits and two RBI.

Freshman rightfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) also had two hits and a run. Sophomore Marvin Hyer (Cliffwood Beach, NJ) had a single, two walks, and three runs.

Western New England College (5-3) plays its final game in the Sunshine State on Sunday against Western Connecticut.
