Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored six goals with two assists and sophomore Chris Body (Newtown, CT) made 17 saves as Western New England College posted a 17-9 decision over Hartwick in a non-conference men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at the All-Weather Field.
The Golden Bears trailed 4-2 after the opening period before exploding for seven unanswered goals to take a 9-4 lead at half-time. Senior Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) scored all three of his goals in the period to help lead the comeback. Body, meanwile, turned away eight shots to keep the Hawks off the board.
Freshman Chuck Cartelli (Yorktown Heights, NY) put Western New England College ahead for good at 5-4 with an unassisted goal at the 11:27 mark. Cartelli also picked-up six ground balls and won 15-of-22 faceoffs. Sophomore Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) scored seven seconds later with an assist from Cherry to pen up a two-goal advantage.
Sophomore Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) contributed two goals while Cofrin and freshman Tim Heffernan (Glastonbury, CT) each added a goal and three assists. It was the first collegiate goal for Heffernan. Sophomore Mike Kelly (Cheshire, CT) also notched his first collegiate goal as did freshman Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA).
Western New England College (2-0) will meet Wittenberg University of Ohio at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (March 11) in Sanford, Florida.
