Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" The Western New England College men's lacrosse team completed its first perfect season in the Pilgrim League in four years with a convincing 14-2 victory over MIT Saturday (April 29) at Golden Bear Stadium.
Senior Joe Cassani (Barre, VT) scored five goals, including the first goal seven seconds into the game. Sophomore Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) added four goals for the Golden Bears (13-2) who compiled an 8-0 mark against Pilgrim opponents this spring. Sophomore Chris Body (Newtown, CT) made nine saves.
Cassani and classmates Michael Ackerman (Baldwin, NY), Kevin Batson (Kennebunk, ME), Mark Bergey (Ambler, PA), and Justin King (Lebanon, ME) were honored before the contest during “Senior Day†activities.
Western New England College will host Babson on Wednesday (May 3) in a semifinal round game of the Pilgrim League Tournament.
Junior Jonathan Stolmeier (San Antonio, TX) scored both goals for the Engineers who finished the season with a 5-7 record (3-5 Pilgrim). Junior Zack Brewer (Durham, NC) made 23 saves.
