Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior attack player Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored five goals and had an assist as the No. 19 Western New England College men's lacrosse team opened its home season with a 14-6 victory over Amherst Thursday.
The game was originally scheduled for Amherst but moved to Golden Bear Stadium because of snow earlier in the day.
The Golden Bears led 2-1 after the first period and held the Lord Jeffs scoreless in the second quarter in taking an 8-1 lead. Cherry scored his fourth goal of the contest with one second left in the third stanza to give Western New England College a 12-5 advantage.
Sophomore attacker Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) added two goals and three assists while junior midfielder Zack Sondrini (Pittsfield, MA) had a pair of goals and an assist as the Golden Bears improved their record to 7-1. Sophomores midfielders Travis Brown (Montpelier, VT), Tim Heffernan (Glastonbury, CT), and Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA), each chipped in with a goal and assist.
Amherst received two goals apiece from junior attacker Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) and sophomore midfielder Will Ferrer (Greenwich, CT). Senior midfielder Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ) added two assists for the Lord Jeffs who fall to 2-4.
