AMHERST, Mass. - The Western New England College men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 16-8 victory over Amherst College in a non-league contest Wednesday night (Mar. 14) at Garber Field on the UMass campus.
The Golden Bears, ranked 18th nationally in the weekly United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III poll, are now 3-0.
Junior attacker Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) continued his fine all-around play by scoring four goals with two assists.
Senior attacker Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) also had a five-point night with two goals and three assists.
Western New England College had nine players score points with junior midfielder Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) contributing three goals. Senior midfielder Rob Ostrem (West Islip, NY) chipped in with two goals and two assists, senior Zack Sondrini (Pittsfield, MA) had two goals and an assist, and sophomore attacker Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) netted a pair of goals.
Junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) had a steady outing by making 14 saves.
The Golden Bears led 3-2 after the opening period and 7-3 at intermission. Coach John Klepacki's team tallied six goals in the final stanza to cement the win.
Junior T.J. Jackson (Worcester, PA) and freshman Thomas McDonnell (Manhasset, NY) each tallied two goals for the Lord Jeffs (0-1). Senior Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) contributed a goal and four assists while sophomore Matt Pietroforte (Brooklyn, NY) stopped 21 shots.
Western New England College now has the weekend off before making its next start at No. 7 Nazareth (N.Y.) on Tuesday, March 20, in Rochester, New York.
