ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In one of the biggest wins in the program's 26-year history, No. 16 Western New England College remained undefeated with a 9-4 upset victory over No. 6 Nazareth College in a non-league game Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 20). This was the first meeting ever between the schools in men's lacrosse.
Junior attacker Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) led the Golden Bears with three goals while senior attacker Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) netted a pair of goals. Junior midfielder Ben Reardon (Longmeadow, MA) added a goal and assist. He also won five-of-eight face-offs.
Western New England College led 1-0 after the opening quarter and 4-1 at intermission. After the Golden Flyers pulled within 4-2 early in the third stanza Cofrin tallied two goals for a 6-2 lead after three quarters.
Junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) finished with 21 saves for the Golden Bears in a top-notch performance.
Sophomore attack Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) and junior defender Jedd Brown (Kennebunk, ME) each picked-up four ground balls.
Nazareth (4-1) came into the game averaging 12.8 goals in its first four outings. Chad Amidon led the hosts with a goal and two assists.
Western New England College (4-0) heads south for a spring break trip that winds up with a game against MIT at 7:00 p.m. Saturday (Mar. 24) in Sanford, Florida.
