Adam Cherry and Bryan Cofrin lead Western New England College past Babson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored three goals and had an assist as No. 3 Western New England College posted an 11-1 victory over visiting Babson College Wednesday night (April 25) in a Pilgrim League men's lacrosse contest.

The Golden Bears remained undefeated with a 13-0 record, which includes a 7-0 mark in the league.

Babson took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Matt Harrington (Hanover, MA) at the 5:51 mark of the opening period.

After that, it was all Western New England College. The Golden Bears came back to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter and 5-1 at half-time. Coach John Klepacki's team broke the game open by scoring five times in the third stanza.

Junior Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) continued his fine overall play by adding two goals and an assist while classmate Tim Heffernan (Glastonbury, CT) also tallied a pair of goals. Junior Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) contributed a goal and two assists. Junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) finished with seven saves.

Sophomore goalie Max Owen (Hamilton, NJ) stopped 11 shots in three quarters of action for the Beavers who fall to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Before the game Western New England College celebrated National Student-Athlete Day by honoring men's lacrosse player Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) who is serving in Iraq with the Marine Reserves.

Western New England College wraps up its regular season at Wheaton this Saturday (April 28).
