SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior second baseman James Dicosmo (Fair Lawn, NJ) delivered a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning to lead Williams College to a 9-7 victory over host Western New England College in a non-league baseball game Tuesday afternoon (May 1) at Trelease Park.
Freshman third baseman Robin Allemand (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) went 5-for-5 for the Ephs and scored four runs, including the insurance run in the tenth.
Williams led 5-1 before the Golden Bears tied the contest with four runs in the seventh on a RBI single by senior third baseman Josh Jacobs (Essex Junction, VT) (3-for-5, two runs) and three-run homer by junior designated player Travis Schwamb (West Springfield, MA). It was the third homer of the season for Schwamb who leads the team in RBI (32).
Schwamb, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, sent the game into extra innings with a two-run double with one out in the ninth. He also had a RBI double for the hosts' first run in the fourth.
Williams banged out 19 hits with senior shortstop Paul Morgan (Essex Junction, VT) going 3-for-6 with a run and RBI. Senior Sam Tuttle (Concord, NH) gained the win in relief to move to 2-0.
This was the seventh straight win for the Ephs who improve their record to 21-7.
Western New England College, which had its 12-game win streak ended, drops to 25-9.
