Waterbury Claims Second CNE Rookie of the Week Honors This Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 13, 2026) – Western New England baseball first year Tyler Waterbury has picked up Conference of New England weekly honors for the second time in his career, claiming Rookie of the Week following an impressive week at the plate over six games played. 

Waterbury made starts in all six games during the week for the Golden Bears, hitting .417 at the dish. Waterbury opened the week by batting 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base against No. 4 Salve Regina University, making a putout and assisting on two others in the field. Waterbury notched a pair of hits the next afternoon in CNE action, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a triple against Suffolk University, coming away with seven assists and a putout in the field. Waterbury continued his hit streak in a pair of midweek non-conference games, picking up a double and three runs scored against Springfield College and adding a hit and an RBI at Wheaton College. 

Most of Waterbury's offensive damage came in the weekend Conference of New England doubleheader against Johnson & Wales University. In game one, Waterbury picked up a hit, two RBIs, and a run scored, while picking up two putouts and two assists in the game. To close out the week, the Danbury, Connecticut, native had three hits in five at-bats, scoring two runs, picking up an RBI, and a double for Western New England in the win. Waterbury went 10-for-24 overall during the week, slashing .417 at the plate with three extra base hits and six RBIs. 

The Western New England baseball team is scheduled for four more games this coming week, three of which will come in Conference of New England play. WNE travels to Nichols College on Tuesday, April 14, hosts Elms College on Wednesday, April 15, and is back on the road for twin ball against Curry College on Saturday, April 18, for CNE action.
