VERO BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore attackman Erinn O'Hara had four goals and an assist, and Aaron Civalier and Corey Remoli each scored three times as No. 17 Nazareth College (N.Y.) defeated No. 7 Western New England College Thursday (March 20) at Vero Beach High School.
The Golden Bears took a 2-1 lead 5:32 into the game before the Golden Eagles soared back for a 3-2 advantage after the opening period.
Nazareth never trailed the rest of the way taking a 7-4 lead at half-time and its largest lead at 11-4 before Western New England College pulled within 11-8 after netting the last four goals of the third period.
O'Hara scored a man-up goal early in the fourth quarter to swing the momentum back in Nazareth's direction and senior Matt Aloi added another goal a little more than a minute later.
Freshman Joe O'Keefe (Branford, CT) fired home a goal to get Western New England College within 13-9 at the 11:23 mark, but the Golden Eagles tallied two big insurance goals over the next seven minutes for their second win over a top 10 opponent in three days. On Tuesday (March 20) Nazareth defeated No. 8 Wesleyan 8-5.
Senior Mike Kelly (Cheshire, CT) led WNEC with a career best five goals and assist while senior Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) added a pair of goals. O'Keefe and senior Tim Heffernan (East Hampton, CT) each finished with a goal and assist.
Senior Travis Brown (Chapel Hill, NC) won 16-of-24 face-offs and had eight ground balls. Junior Matt McAnney (Wakefield, MA) picked-up six ground balls.
Senior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) compiled 19 saves for Western New England College while Todd Dermody turned away 11 shots for Nazareth.
Western New England College has a 2-2 record after dropping its second consecutive game to a nationally-ranked team. The Golden Bears fell to No. 3 Cortland on March 11.
