BEVERLY, Mass. - Eddie O'Reilly (Beverly, MA) fired home the game-winner 1:41 into double overtime as No. 15 Endicott defeated No. 16 Western New England College 8-7 Tuesday night (Apr. 15) in a battle of nationally-ranked men's lacrosse teams.
The Gulls (10-2) took over sole possesison of first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 5-0 mark and extended their conference wining streak to 45 games.
Senior Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) led the Golden Bears with four goals and an assist. His final goal with 1:06 left in the fourth period sent the game into overtime.
Freshman Joe O'Keefe (Branford, CT) finished with three assists.
Senior Mike Kelly (Cheshire, CT) contributed two goals while junior Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) netted the other score.
Junior Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) chipped in with two assists. Senior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) compiled 14 saves.
The Golden Bears (7-4) are now second in the conference with a 6-1 mark.
O'Reilly totaled three goals for the Gulls while Dan Cain contributed two goals and an assist.
Goalie Eric Hagerty stopped 22 shots for the second straight game, including a game-saving save on a shot by Kelly seconds into the second extra session.
Endicott led 1-0 after the opening period before WNEC came back for a 2-2 tie at the break. The Gulls led 5-4 after three periods before the Golden Bears forced the game in the extra sessions.
