Box Score DALLAS, Texas - Senior Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) scored the winning goal with 11 seconds left as No. 15 Western New England College edged No. 12 Nazareth (N.Y.) 10-9 Saturday evening (March 21) in the Patriots' Cup Tournament at Ford Stadium on the campus of Southern Methodist University.
The Golden Bears improved their record to 3-1 following their third consecutive victory.
Nazareth tied the score when sophomore Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar (Orchard Park, NY) tallied his third goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining.
The Golden Flyers from New York won the face-off, but senior Jared Pabis (Wilbraham, MA) came up with a key ground ball that led to Kukis' winning shot. Junior Nick Zaleski (Somers, CT) then won the ensuing face-off for the Golden Bears to seal the win.
Freshman Nick Jez (Somers, CT) scored three goals (including two in the fourth quarter) while junior Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ) had a pair of goals for Western New England College. Each player also added an assist.
Seniors Matt McAnneny (Wakefield, MA), Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA), Pabis, and David Teichman (North Andover, MA) netted the other goals. Brody and classmate Derek Mantey (Waltham, MA) also contributed assists.
Freshman goalie Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) compiled 17 saves while Pabis finished with five ground balls.
Junior Mike Cummings (Elmira, NY) also netted three goals for Nazareth (3-2) who had a 50-38 shot advantage. Junior Todd Ermody (Selden, NY) finished with 20 saves.
WNEC trailed 5-2 at halftime, but got within 8-7 heading into the final period.
Jez then fired in two goals at the 12:44 and 7:10 marks, respectively, that set the stage for the exciting final minute.
