CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Western New England College baseball team ended its spring break trip to Arizona with a 12-4 loss against undefeated Southern Maine Thursday (March 18) at the Snedigar Field Complex.
The Golden Bears, who have a 7-2 record, won four of six contests during their week at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational.
Junior Mike Eaton (Sabattus, ME) had a single, double, triple, and drove in four runs as the Huskies remained perfect at 5-0. Senior Collin Henry (Penobscot, MA) had three singles and scored two runs. Junior right-hander Ben Ives (Portland, MA) gained his third win of the season.
Western New England College totaled 13 hits with senior shortstop Justin Walz (Groton, CT), senior center fielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT), junior catcher Jason LeClerc (Chicopee, MA) and sophomore right fielder Tom Bouvier (East Longmeadow, MA) each getting two hits.
Senior right-hander Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, R.I.) suffered his first loss in three decisions.
Southern Maine jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings before the Golden Bears pulled within 5-3 heading into the seventh. The Huskies scored seven times in the inning to break the game open with a three-run double by Eaton the big hit.
