PATCHOUGE, N.Y. - The Western New England College baseball team exploded for 27 runs and 31 hits in capturing a doubleheader over St. Joseph's-Long Island by the scores of 17-4 and 10-5 Sunday afternoon (March 7) at Alfano Field.
The Golden Bears, who defeated Farmingdale State 11-1 in their season opener on Saturday, are now 3-0. The SJC Golden Eagles drop to 1-3.
Senior first baseman
Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) had a great day at the plate with five hits and seven runs-batted-in. He had three hits and five RBI in the opener, which included a three-run homer in a seven-run seventh inning.
Sophomore first baseman
Mike Taylor (Andover, MA) collected five hits in at-bats with a triple in the first game and double in the nightcap.
Junior catcher
Jason Leclerc (Chicopee, MA) had a terrific outing with five hits highlighted by a two-run homer and two stolen bases in the opener and triple in the second contest. He also knocked in three runs in each game.
Senior center fielder
Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) contributed three hits with six runs-batted-in and five runs. He had two singles, four runs, and four RBI in the opener.
Freshman third baseman
Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) made his first collegiate start in the first game, finishing with a single, double, and triple, run, and RBI.
Junior second baseman
Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) had three hits, including a triple, along with three RBI and two runs in the opener. He also doubled and scored a run in the nightcap.
Senior shortstop
Justin Walz (Groton, CT) scored four runs in the doubleheader.

Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) were the winning pitchers.
