SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Playing perhaps its best game of the season, the Western new England College men's lacrosse team posted a solid 12-9 victory over city rival Springfield in a non-league contest Friday afternoon (Apr. 23) at Stagg Field.
Senior attacker
Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ) scored four goals and sophomore goalie
Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) compiled 14 saves as the Golden Bears' ended the Pride's six-game win streak.
Sophomore attacker
Pat White (Milton, MA) contributed three goals and an assist as WNEC improved its record to 10-5. Springfield drops to 8-5 after allowing its most goals this season.
With a large crowed (1,024 fans) in attendance, the two highly-regarded squads played another hard-fought battle under picture-perfect weather conditions (sunny, 67 degrees).
WNEC struck first when freshman attacker
Corrigan Harreys (Essex, CT) scored just 1:40 into the contest with a slick assist from junior midfielder

Springfield tied the game following a goal by sophomore midfielder
Jarrid Johnson (Orlando, FL) with 6:09 left in the period.
Western New England College shocked the Pride and its fans with four straight goals in the first 2:51 of the second quarter.
Sophomore midfielder
Joe Martin (Springfield, MA) won several face-offs that helped set-up three consecutive goals by Santye who fired home his first only 20 seconds into the period. He then tallied second goal at the 13:52 mark with an assist from freshman midfield
Corey Johnson (Maybrook, NY) and followed with his third only 22 seconds later as White got the assist.
Junior midfielder
Mike Santare (South Salem, NY) tallied an unassisted goal from a near impossible angle to give d the Golden Bears a 5-1 advantage with 12:09 left in the half.
Springfield used goals by junior attacker
Kyle Louer (Islip, NY) and sophomore midfielder
Mike Delia (Wading River, NY) to cut the margin to two with 6:47 remaining before the break.
White quickly answered with a goal 22 seconds later and senior defender
Nick Zaleski (Somers, CT) found the net (with an assist from Martin) at 6:19 for another four-shot margin. Senior midfielder
Joe Macchi (Mahopac, NY) got one back for the Pride at 1:32 who trailed 7-4 at halftime.
SC junior midfielder
Shawn Runyon (Fairport, NY) narrowed the lead to two with a goal at 7:19 of the third quarter, but once again the Golden Bears came right back as White netted a goal with an assist from junior midfielder
Marty O'Brien (West Springfield, MA) 1:14 later.
Harreys and White then scored goals in the final 2:35 (with assists from Santare) to give the Golden Bears a 10-5 lead after 45 minutes.
Knowlton played a key role making six outstanding saves in the third period.
Springfield didn't quit scoring four times in the final stanza, but couldn't catch up. Delia finished with two goals and two assists, Runyon two goals an an assist, and Macchi two goals for the ousts. Sophomore goalie
