Western New England tops Salve Regina 15-9 to stay perfect in TCCC play

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Junior midfielder Andrew Mariani (East Brunswick, NJ) and sophomore attacker Corrigan Harreys (Essex, CT) each tallied three goals and an assist to lead the Western New England attack in a 15-9 victory over Salve Regina in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Wednesday (Mar. 30) at Gaudet Field.

Western New England improves to 6-3 with a perfect 5-0 mark in TCCC play. Salve Regina slips to 5-3 with a 2-1 record in conference.

The Golden Bears opened the scoring on a goal from senior midfielder Colin Houlihan (Yorktown Heights, NY). Junior midfielder Joe Martin (Springfield, MA) tallied a second goal just six seconds later after winning the ensuing face-off.

Martin was 10-of-15 in face-offs, grabbing a team-high eight groundballs.

Harreys scored on an assist from Mariani with just two seconds left on the clock to give the Golden Bears a 7-4 lead at the half.

Salve Regina continued to bounce back, cutting the Western New England lead to 8-6 on goals from junior attacker Chris Walker (Marshfield, MA) and freshman attacker Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, MD).

Hollenshade led the Seahawks with four goals, while Walker contributed two goals and an assist.

Western New England then buried the next seven goals to take a decisive 15-6 advantage.

Freshman midfielder Sean Lawton (Abington, MA) notched back-to-back goals to open the fourth period.

The Golden Bears attack was well balanced, featuring 10 different scorers in the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) made 10 saves in 56:14 of action to earn the victory.

Seahawk freshman goalkeeper Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, MA) compiled 20 saves.

Western New England returns to action on Tuesday (Apr. 5) at 4:00 p.m. to host cross-town rival Springfield in a non-league contest.
