Western New England wins season-opener 9-2 over host Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.
– Western New England  opened its season on a positive note with a 9-2 victory over host Farmingdale State in the opening game of the Farmingdale State Baseball Tournament Friday afternoon (Mar. 4).

Senior pitcher Matt Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) gained the win allowing just two runs (one earned) in seven innings. He gave up eight hits with a strikeout and no walks. This was the 20th career victory for the veteran right-hander in 24 decisions.

Senior center-fielder Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and two-runs- batted in.

Junior first basemen Mike Taylor (Andover, MA) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run while second basemen Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) contributed a pair of hits and two RBI.

Sophomore shortstop Kyle McKelvey (Schenectady, NY) hit a two-run triple in the ninth inning for the Golden Bears.

The Rams were led by sophomore right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, NY) who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and senior shortstop Brandon Cruz (Bronx, NY) who was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day.

The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday (Mar. 5) at 4:00 p.m. against Rensselaer.
