CASTLETON, Vt. – Junior attacker
Ali Pepe (North Reading, MA) notched the game-winner with 2:45 remaining as the Western New England women's lacrosse team rallied for a thrilling 13-12 victory over Castleton in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon (March 13).
The Golden Bears outscored the Spartans by a 6-2 margin in the final 15 minutes to win their second straight game and improve their record to 3-2.
Senior
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) contributed five goals and an assist, and pushed her career scoring total to 205 points in becoming the seventh player in program history to pass the 200-point mark.
Freshman midfielder
Jessica Scannapieco (Blue Bell, PA) contributed to the victory by scoring three times and winning nine of the team's 17 draw controls. Sophomore midfielder
Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, NY) added two goals and an assist.
Castleton (1-2) led by four at 6-2 at the 4:58 mark of the opening half and took a 7-4 advantage at intermission.

Sarah Clark (Guilford, VT) scored with 16:08 remaining to give the hosts a 10-7 lead.
Western New England ran off three straight goals and tied the contest when Toomy found the net with 11:01 remaining.
The teams traded goals over the next three minutes before junior midfielder
Jessica Taplin (Barre, VT) put the Spartans ahead for the last time at 12-11 with 7:19 to play.
Sherman (with an assist from Doyle) tied the game for the third time in the final 11 minutes with 4:09 left before Pepe (who also had an assist in the game) fired in her game-winning shot.

Emily Castleman (Wilbraham, MA) compiled 10 saves for Western New England while junior
Lily Derbyshire (Little Compton, RI) stopped 16 shots for Castleton.
