Scoring Summary
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – A late rally fell short as the Western New England women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-14 decision to unbeaten Mount Holyoke Thursday afternoon (Mar. 15).
The Golden Bears saw their record fall to 3-3 while the Lyons remained perfect at 3-0. MHC has won its three games by a total of seven goals this season.
Freshman midfielder
Kirsten Kilburn (North Branford, CT) led the hosts with four goals, five draw controls, four caused turnovers, and four ground balls. Sophomore midfielder
Brianne Phelan (Quincy, MA) added three goals and three assist while junior attacker
Molly Macdonald (Milton, MA) also scored three times.
Mount Holyoke took a 9-4 lead at halftime and pushed the margin to 12-5 when sophomore attacker
Liz Randolph (Southbury, CT) scored with 23:36 to play. Randolph also recorded a game high 10 draw controls in helping MHC to a 22-11 advantage.
Western New England made a gallant comeback scoring five of next six goals to pull within 13-10 when senior midfielder
Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, NY) fired in a goal at the 16:11 mark.
The Lyons didn't back down taking a 16-11 advantage following a goal by Kilburn with 10:05 remaining.
The Golden Bears regained the momentum by scoring three straight times with a goal by senior midfielder
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) cutting the lead to two at 16-14 with 4:04 to play.
Kilburn then secured a key draw control that eventually led to a goal by junior attacker
Christina Horimoto (San Jose, CA) with 2:11 left and neither team scored after that.

Jessica Scannapieco (Blue Bell, PA) (who won five draw controls) each had four goals and an assist. Sophomore midfielder
Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, NY) contributed three goals and two assists. Toomy finished with a pair of goals, three assists, and five ground balls.
Freshman goalie
Emily Castleman (Wilbraham, MA) allowed 15 goals and compiled 11 saves in 46 minutes, 16 seconds. Freshman
Melissa Perry (Somers, CT) played 13 minutes, 44 seconds and gave up two goals while making one save.
Junior
Jamie Theophilos (Hinsdale, IL) stopped 14 saves and allowed 11 goals in 47 minutes, 22 seconds. Junior
Liz Malenfant (Nantucket, MA) saw 12 minutes, 38 seconds of action giving up three goals while making three saves.
