Errors costly as Western New England drops a 7-4 decision to Elmhurst College (Illinois)

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Sophomore right fielder Dave Wolak (Carol Stream, IL) had two hits and three RBI to lead the Elmhurst (IL) baseball team to a 7-4 victory over Western New England Monday (Mar. 19).

The Blue Jays are now 6-1 while the Golden Bears slip to 4-3.

Western New England committed three errors in the game that led to three unearned runs.

Wolak knocked in two runs with a two-out double in the first and added a RBI single in the seventh.

Elmhurst led 5-0 after five innings before WNE tacked on two runs in the sixth on RBI singles by junior third baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) and junior right fielder Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT).

The Blue Jays increased their margin to 7-2 in the seventh.

Sophomore shortstop Kyle McKelvey (Schenectady, NY) slugged a two-run homer in the ninth for the Golden Bears' final runs. He also singled in the game.

Sophomore Dave Parr (Cary, IL) gave up six hits with no walks and six strikeouts in five-and-two-third innings to gain the win.

Junior Mike Lospinuso (Islip, NY) was the losing pitcher. He allowed four hits and five runs (two earned) with three walks and four strikeouts in four-and-a-third innings.

Elmhurst coach Joel Southern served as an assistant coach with present WNE coach Matt LaBranche from 2003-06.
