WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Western New England baseball team compiled season highs for runs and hits in taking an 18-2 victory over Clarkson Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 21) at Chain O'Lakes Stadium.

Two streaks also came to an end in the process as the Golden Bears stopped a mild two-game skid in getting over the .500 mark at 5-4.

Western New England also ended the Golden Knights six-game win streak after banging out 24 hits, including seven doubles.

The Golden Bears didn't waste any time scoring twice in the first inning and taking a 7-0 lead after three frames.

The Golden Knights tallied a pair of runs in the fourth before WNE plated four runs in the sixth for an 11-2 advantage.

Junior third baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and his first homer of the season. He also scored three times and had two RBI.

A couple of promising sophomores, center fielder Jeff Schult (Wappingers Falls, NY) and first baseman Steve Ambrosino (Laurel Hollow, NY) each added three hits with Ambrosino also driving in three runs.

Sophomore Brendan Nugent (Milford, CT) improved his record to 2-0 after giving up six hits and two runs with a pair of walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
