SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior midfielder
James Reardon (Longmeadow, MA) and sophomore midfielder
Sean Lawton (Abington, MA) each scored two goals with an assist to lead the Western New England men's lacrosse team to an 8-1 victory over Gordon Wednesday evening (Mar. 28).
The Golden Bears, who moved up two spots to 17th in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III poll, are now 4-2 after capturing their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener.
Western New England led 3-0 after Lawton scored 38 seconds into the contest and Reardon hit the net twice. The Golden Bears took a 5-0 advantage at halftime and stretched the margin to 7-0 after three periods.
Senior midfielder
Patrick White (Milton, MA) and sophomore attacker
Adam Knapton (Canandaigua, NY) each contributed a goal and assist. Seniors midfielder
Nick Jez (Somers, CT) and
Joe O'Keefe (Branford, CT) had the other goals.
Senior goalie
Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) compiled six saves while junior defender
Aaron Harris (Eliot, ME) chipped-in with six ground balls.
Gordon got on the board when senior midfielder
Wes Chittick (Glenside, PA) scored at 11:51 of the fourth quarter to cut the score to 7-1.
Freshman defender
Austin Long (San Diego, CA) picked-up five ground balls. Junior
Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, MD) stopped eight shots.
The Fighting Scots are now 2-5 overall and 1-2 in CCC play.
